Adults' Wellbeing
We'll continue the work of the last 16 months to bring greater collaboration and joint working between Staffordshire's social care services and national health services. As we progress this still further, in fact as a national leader, people, patients and the users of services will see better, more cost effective and seamless delivery.
We should rejoice that people generally are living longer, many with complex needs, and the tremendous medical advances also mean that younger adults with complex disabilities are enjoying the fulfilment in life that would have been impossible only a decade ago.
But the next 20 years will see enormous financial challenges because of the level of support more and more people will need. In Staffordshire we are maintaining the Budgets for Adult Social Services and leading the way nationally in ensuring people have the control, choice and support to make lifestyle decisions which will help maintain their independence wherever possible as well as inspiring them to live life to the full.
In Staffordshire, we are on a journey which started in June 2009 to modernise social care services, integrate seamlessly with wider health delivery, bring clarity and accountability to decisions which are made across the health sector here and provide the public sector and community infrastructure which will support vulnerable people, whatever their needs and aspirations.
The challenges the UK, and therefore Staffordshire, faces are their to be overcome and with the crucial help of partners in Health, GPs, local councils, the voluntary sector and communities themselves we will continue to improve how, where and when we can support people to maintain more independence whatever their health challenges."
