I was elected to the County Council in May 2005 to represent Burton Trent Division (East Staffordshire). The Division incorporates the two Borough Council wards of Anglesey and Stapenhill and has an electorate of about 9,000. I am Cabinet Support Member for Schools and a member of the following Committees:

Children and Young People Scrutiny and Performance Panel
Pensions Committee
Healthier Communities and Older People Scrutiny and Performance Panel
Pensions Committee
Healthier Communities and Older People Scrutiny and Performance Panel Working Group: Services for Carers
Budget Scrutiny Working Group
Members' Services Development Panel ICT Working Group

I also serve on the Stoke and Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Authority, being a representative on the Human Resources Policy Committee (Vice-Chair),  the Scrutiny and Performance Committee, the Community Liaison Forum, Service Development Panel and the Community Development and Engagement Panel (LAA) - East Staffordshire.

Other bodies that I am a member of are:

Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education
Adoption and Permanence Panel (seeking a replacement)
East Staffordshire Children's Trust Board
East Staffordshire Children's Centre Management Board
Management Advisory Group: Paulet School C&LP
Extra Care Housing Development Group: Trent & Dove Housing
Stepenhill PACT (Partners and Community Together)
Anglesey PACT
Consolidated Charity of Burton upon Trent
Beyne School Foundation
Chairman: Burton Constituency Labour Party (monthly Executive and General Committee meetings)
Local Branch Treasurer

From 1995 to 2003, I represented Stretton Ward on East Staffordshire Borough Council. I was Chairman of the Planning Applications Committee and Mayor of the Borough from 2001 to 2002.

I am a graduate of Nottingham University where I read Geography before obtaining my PGCE and becoming a teacher. I taught for six years in a grammar school in those far off days, before going into primary education. My last twelve years in teaching, before I took early retirement, were as the full-time teaching head of a village primary school.

I have been married to Freda since 1963. Our eldest daughter works for Janet Dean, Member of Parliament for Burton; our youngest daughter works as a nanny while our son is a graphic designer.

I played rugby for Burton RFC for 30 years and my last game of cricket about 10 years ago. In my spare time (what's that?), I enjoy gardening, quizzing and photography.

My email address is peter.davies@staffordshire.gov.uk and I look forward to hearing from you.
