Staffordshire People's Panel
"Our vision is to make Staffordshire a great place to live, work, visit and invest. In order to achieve this vision, it is essential that we understand the needs, views and expectations of our residents and service users. We are committed to listening and improving communication with our communities so we can become more responsive to our customers needs. The more we listen, the more we know what residents want. By knowing what our residents want, the more we can focus our services on your needs. To achieve this we need your involvement in the Staffordshire People's Panel."
What is the Staffordshire People's Panel?
The Staffordshire People's Panel is a panel of around 800 Staffordshire residents who have agreed to give some time to share their views with Staffordshire County Council. It provides local people with the opportunity to have their say about local public services and what it is like living in the county.
Why did we decide to set up a Staffordshire People's Panel?
Staffordshire County Council wants to put community involvement at the heart of shaping its priorities for the forthcoming years, and the Staffordshire People's Panel forms the central part of that goal. It will also provide you with the opportunity to express your views and needs on a wide variety of topics - many of which will be really important in your daily life.
Who is on the Panel?
The panel includes residents aged 18+ from all backgrounds and areas of Staffordshire.
To ensure the panel is broadly representative of Staffordshire as a whole, we try to ensure we have a broad range of people on the basis of age, gender, ethnicity, disability and whereabouts they live. The panel is continually being refreshed with new members.
What will the Panel be used for?
We will be consulting the people's panel on a wide variety of issues that cover a range of services that we provide. Whilst the issues covered will mainly be those that have an impact on all residents, some may be more specific and only have relevance to certain members of the panel.
The views and feedback that we receive from you will help us to plan and prioritise our services more effectively.
What does being a Panel member involve?
Panel members are asked to complete around three to four postal questionnaires per year. You may also be invited to participate in a group discussion (known as a focus group), workshops, telephone, in-home or online surveys, mystery shopping or be sent invitations to attend council events. As a progressive council we are always looking at new methods to consult with our residents including the use of new technologies so you will also be asked if you would like to take part in online surveys.
Why would I want to join?
As a member of the People's Panel you will have the opportunity to tell us about your experiences of living in Staffordshire and what you expect from local public services. You will be able to inform decisions made by the council and other partner organisations. We will give you regular feedback on what we have found out and on action taken as a result through newsletters and the council's website.
What about confidentiality?
The information that you give us about yourself will only be used for research and consultation purposes. The reports and results we create do not give out any details about individual panel members, nor do we pass or sell on details to any third parties.
How do I join?
We are currently reviewing how we engage with our residents and are looking to increase opportunities for involvement.
Information on how to join will be available soon.
