How to invite the Chairman to an event
Chairman's role
The Chairman is the ceremonial head of the Council. They must be a serving County Councillor, but must remain politically impartial in their role as Chairman. They must not be a member of the Cabinet.
Ceremonial duties include:
- being the politically impartial civic leader of Staffordshire
- promoting the objectives and services of the County Council and Staffordshire itself
- acting as an ambassador for the County Council and Staffordshire
fostering community identity and pride
Key responsibilities include:
- presiding over meetings of the full Council
- attending events on behalf of the County Council
- inviting individuals and representatives of key organisations to events at County Buildings and other venues
Councillor Terry Dix was elected Chairman of Staffordshire County Council in May 2007. The Vice-Chairman is Councillor Mrs Sandra Hambleton.
Biography of Chairman
Councillor Terry Dix was elected to Staffordshire County Council in 1981. He was Deputy Leader from 1985 to 1996 when he became Leader. He is actively involved in promoting the links that Staffordshire has with Bremen, Ivanovo and more recently Ghana.
He is a supporter of the Royal British Legion and many charities including Macmillan Cancer Relief. He is married to Pat and has 5 children and 10 grandchildren and enjoys gardening and garden design.
