I was elected as Vice-Chairman at the County Council meeting on Thursday 12 May.

Born – 25th January 1947, Sefton General Hospital, Liverpool 

Educated – Primary - Liverpool, then Kirkby (new town In Merseyside)

 Secondary – Brookfield Comprehensive, Kirkby

On leaving school I started as a student apprentice at the Ford Motor Company in Halewood (gained ONC in Engineering) and then Trainee Architect at Kirkby UDC (gained ONC in building construction) then was selected as a trainee Programmer for the NEW South West Lancs Computer Consortium (also in Kirkby). 

Followed career through Cheadle & Gatley UDC, Tameside MBC to East Staffs District (now East Staffs Borough) as Computer Manager. 

Moved into industry with Nixdorf Computer as support and then sales.  

Started my own business in 1985 finally retiring 2008. 

Married Sue in 1979. Children – Julia in 1982 who is now teaching in Bedfordshire, currently assistant head in a first school and Stephen in 1985 who is a graphic designer in Milton Keynes. 

Became a school governor 1989, chair of primary and then high school 1996, chair of governing body at de Ferrers in 2000. 

De Ferrers became an Academy January in 2011 and in I chair the Trust and the Governing body. I’m also chairman of the Beyne charitable foundation. 

I was elected as a County Councillor for the Dove Division in 2005 and was sometimes member of the Shadow Cabinet. On winning control in 2009, I was Cabinet Member for Community Health and became Chairman of the Scrutiny Panel for Schools and Colleges in 2010. 

In 2011 I was elected as Vice Chairman of the County Council and I am currently a member of the new Education Scrutiny Panel and also the new Communities Crime and Culture Scrutiny Committee
