Station to put regeneration on the right track

Today I've been lending my support to the new A50 Liverpool Road development that should help breathe fresh economic life into Talke and Kidsgrove.

The Liverpool Road site, which is close to my own division, is currently undergoing preparatory works for the start of a £500,000 project that will release land for development and environmental improvements, and bring major improvements at a major road junction.

This scheme will benefit Kidsgrove in so many ways; from improving the safety of pedestrians and motorists to reducing polluting road congestion. The new and improved footpaths for pedestrians and safe crossings for cyclists will give local people the chance to finally enjoy the area.

I was accompanied by the local County Councillor Margaret Astle who was able to highlight the progress made after the green light was given to the development in October.

Together we pushed for a regeneration of the area and I'm delighted that we're now on our way.

I've also visited the old railway goods yard adjacent to Kidsgrove Station which the county council is currently in negotiation to purchase.  It could provide accommodation for up to 50 businesses.

There is a real demand for a tailor made scheme that not only provides accommodation for new and expanding businesses, but which also offers free on-site business support.

The county council has created similar schemes across Staffordshire which have been enormously successful in creating hundreds of jobs, so there's every reason why this would be a success in Kidsgrove where the local economy, environment and transport is on the up.
