Cheering on our athletes as the countdown to 2012 begins
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all contestants from Staffordshire who are taking part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics the very best of luck.
On the 24th August there will be a Flying the Flag - London 2012 Ceremony which I will be attending. This will take place in Market Square, Stafford, starting at 2.30pm when two special London 2012 Flags will be raised, one on the Shire Hall Gallery and one on the Guildhall Shopping Centre.
The ceremony marks the handover from Beijing to London and coincides with the handover of the Olympic flag to the Mayor of London during the closing ceremony of the Beijing Games.
This marks the start of the four year journey for the UK and Staffordshire which will aim to ensure that the 2012 Games are a resounding success, achieving a wide range of benefits for the people of Staffordshire.
We are worknig hard to ensure this county achieves the maximum economic, social and cultural benefit from the games when they come to this country in four short years.
