Green centre brings jobs and battles climate change
A vital part of the county council's work is to breathe fresh life into the economy.
That is why I was particularly delighted to officially open the Lymedale Business Centre near Newcastle. The site was once a centre for coal mining in north Staffordshire and is now attracting jobs once more.
The opening also comes after the centre received national recognition by winning a prestigious Green Apple Award in June. The award recognised the building's outstanding environmental credentials which will help Staffordshire County Council to meet its commitment to tackle global warming by cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.
Lymedale Business Centre provides a fantastic space for businesses to get started in a supportive, professional environment. It is a key part of the regeneration work taking place across Newcastle-under-Lyme which will bring greater prosperity, a higher standard of living and more jobs to the area.
The centre has been created by a partnership of Staffordshire County Council and Advantage West Midlands made possible through the North Staffordshire Regeneration Zone. Advantage West Midlands board member Sue Prince OBE, was also present at the opening saying Lymedale Business Centre was excellent news for the north Staffordshire economy.
The Centre is expected to create up to 250 jobs in addition to the 2,600 jobs already created by the business park.
