Looking forward to a new future for Codsall Village Hall
Looking forward to a new future for Codsall Village Hall with the Leader of South Staffordshire District Council, Councillor Brian Edwards.

New mental health services for south Staffordshire

I've added my support to new plans to improve access to mental health services in South Staffordshire, after visiting Codsall with local councillor Sonja Oakley last week.

Thanks to a partnership between the county council and South Staffordshire District Council, Codsall Village Hall is now set to undergo a £90,000 redevelopment to equip it to be the future centre of counselling and mental health services in the district.  Services from counselling to helping people into employment will be available to all at the hall.

Although we're still in the early stages of developing exactly what services will be available at the Village Hall, these plans are exciting news.  Traditionally, it is a challenge to provide access to mental health services in rural communities, and there is currently no base for the community in south Staffordshire to readily access the support and services they need.  I look forward to the plans taking shape.

I also met two young people from Cheslyn Hay to congratulate them on the work they undertake with other young people at their school.  They are part of a peer education programme that aims to help young people through difficult times.  Peer education simply involves young people offering information and support to other young people and very often a friend or peer will have more credibility and will be more approachable than an adult. These young people have had a huge impact.  Congratulations to them.
