Be a part of the Snow Patrol...
...and help people stay steady this winter.
Thousands of older and more vulnerable people fall every year in Staffordshire.
In the Staffordshire Moorlands alone, over 6,000 incidents of falls were reported, and they're just the ones that result in some form of injury.
The shocking facts speak for themselves. Of the 6,000 falls, 30% of the people with fall-related injuries die within 12 months.
But, there are things that you can do to help people near you stay on their feet this winter:
-
Grab a shovel and clear the bus stops, footpaths and walkways around your house in bad weather
-
Keep an eye out for your neighbour. Do they need their path clearing with a shovel or help putting table salt down on their path?
-
Are their drains clear? If they're not then the water could freeze and cause a slipping hazard.
-
Do they need any shopping doing? Please lend a hand to help them get by with the day to day jobs, including shopping, fetching prescription medications and, where necessary, stocking up on bottled water in case their pipes freeze.
-
Notice their footwear - one of the biggest causes of falling down is loose fitting slippers. Help them to get another pair if they need it.
