Environmental Impacts

Whichever route is chosen the road will be a single carriageway with a 30mph limit, lit along its length and complete with new cycle ways and footpaths.

To keep road noise to a minimum, the road will be surfaced with materials which will reduce traffic noise while being hard wearing and skid resistant.

While all routes will manage the increased congestion and pollution which accompany a growing town, they will also have their own impact on the environment.

At the planning application stage, a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be required to ascertain the impact of these proposals and specify an appropriate scheme of mitigation measures.  This will be prepared by independent environmental specialists commissioned by the county council.

Before you choose a route to vote for please read the following reports which consider their effects on the environment: ecology, possible ways to mitigate environmental harm, landscape, sustainable transport, traffic noise and biodiversity.
