What's happening?
|
We are in the early stages of planning a range of access improvements for the western edge of Stafford. Our proposals include a brand new road to connect the A518 Newport Road to the A34 Foregate Street.
These pages present the cases for four proposed routes which we have called Yellow, Blue, Red and Green. We would like you to tell us which, if any, you think is the best option. |

Why is it happening?
Stafford is set to grow significantly over the new few years.
The Government has marked Stafford as a new 'Growth Point' for the West Midlands, with plans for further business investment, employment, retail development and housing.
The town is also in line to become a place of significant importance for the military as a garrison town, increasing the town's population.
This growth will bring more jobs and prosperity, and help Stafford become a major centre of commercial, cultural and civic life. This is a vision shared by business and local councils alike.
However it will also generate more traffic on the town's roads. The proposed road would relieve the predicted congestion.
When will it happen?
Once funding has been secured it could take another five years of planning before work gets underway.
How much will it cost?
Early estimates puts the cost of the scheme at over £36 million. Government funding is needed to make this happen. Your comments will be vital in securing this money.
What are the choices?
Our specialist engineers have worked hard to identify practical options for this relief road link.
To make sure you have enough information to form your opinion, we have also included technical reports such as the Strategic context (what's happening, why and the options) which will give you more detail.
