Local Land Charges - Personal Searches

Staffordshire County Council is the Highway Authority for the districts within Staffordshire and holds information about the status and extents of the highway (excluding trunk roads, motorways).

Queries relating to the status or extent of the highways and the proximity of traffic or road schemes may be requested through a Personal Search Highway Enquiry. 

word  Highway Search Enquiry Form| (word, 57kb) Information regarding the status of a highway can currently be obtained freely by faxed request to the Land Charges Section - Fax No: 01785 276046. The Council then deals with requests and in most cases makes the information available, verbally, after 3pm the following day.

If you require further search information on a property, a new service will be in place as from 01 June 2007, which will provide written responses on the maintenance of Roads ( inc Section 38 information where applicable), Road Schemes (within 200 metres), Traffic Schemes, Public Rights of Way, Stopping Up of Roads / Footways, Compulsory Purchase and Highways Extent.

The Information Commissioner issued a guidance note in respect of land searches and environmental regulations on the 16 July 2009. For the purposes of clarity Staffordshire County Council would make the following statement:

Pending discussions between the Information Commissioner, Local Government Association and other parties there will be no changes to the current arrangements for Land Charges and their administration. We are currently monitoring these discussions and continue to review any guidance issued.

CON 29 O Enquiries:             £3.25 each when requested with CON 29
R Enquiries

CON 29 O Enquiries Only:      £16.20 + £3.25 per question

LLC1 Enquiries:                   £17.30

Highway Extent Enquiry        £64.35 + VAT

Qu.22 Further Info.              £16.20

CON 29 R Component Data:   £16.20 + £1.10 per question
