Keeping Staffordshire Moving

We look after more than:

• 3,100 miles of road
• 100,000 street lights
• 12,000 lit signs
• 120 sets of traffic signals
• 255 signalised pedestrian crossings
• 145,000 drainage gullies

We employ over 100 staff involved in routine road maintenance, major road restructuring and resurfacing projects, weather proofing and surface dressing.
In the winter our teams are out at all hours spreading salt and clearing snow and fallen trees.

The Staffordshire Highways operation is focused through three geographically based teams.

Staffordshire also has one of UK's biggest and most ambitious street lighting partnerships, with ABB Ltd.  Over 70% of Staffordshire's 100,000 street-lights will be replaced over the over next 25 years, costing £150 million.

Our engineers are also responsible for major new road schemes, such as the Biddulph, Rugeley and Burntwood bypasses - cutting town centre congestion and pollution and keeping the traffic flowing.

We keep over 1,100 road bridges and 2,600 footbridges in tip-top condition and maintain and strengthen retaining walls protecting our roads from slides and collapses. And we work with developers -advising them on road safety design and ensuring they put people first.
