Speed Limit Policy
The Department for Transport (DfT) published 01/2006 "Setting Local Speed Limits" in August 2006 and highlighted the need to manage speed in a way that is appropriate for the road function and local characteristics.
The purpose of this policy is to serve the needs of all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians, as well as drivers and riders of motorised vehicles.
This policy should not be used in isolation, but read in conjunction with comprehensive advice and guidance set out in DfT Circular 1/06, the relevant traffic advisory leaflets, Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 and legislation. Further information can be found in DfT's "A Road Safety Good Practice Guide".
