Ride it Right
Road traffic incident statistics amongst motorcyclists have been analysed to enable the Road Safety & Sustainable Travel Unit to provide a strategy to reduce the number of casualties.
The results have identified a number of routes in Staffordshire that have a seen a high number of deaths or injuries to motorcyclists. Staffordshire County Council's Road Safety Unit has launched the Ride it Right campaign, targeted at all road users to highlight the stretches of road where motorcyclists are most vulnerable, based on recent data.
The routes targeted in 2011 are:
-
A34 Trentham to Cannock
-
A53 Newcastle to Loggerheads
-
A53 Endon to Leek
-
A460 Rugeley to Wolverhampton
-
A51 Rugeley to Tamworth
-
A518 Stafford to Uttoxeter
-
A519 Newcastle to Newport (Shrops)
The routes have been highlighted through the siting of temporary yellow signs alerting both motorcyclists and other road users.
The message has been reinforced through publicity and promotional resources. Beer mats have been placed in most pubs along the routes, together with 'Ride it Right' leaflets and Department for Transport resources. Filling stations have also been targeted for publicity along the routes and the general campaign has gone countywide.
Evaluation of the Ride it Right campaign
The casualty evaluation of the Ride it Right routes has shown a positive outcome every year since we introduced the scheme in 2006. For more information about this you can download the reports below:
