Public Transport
A dedicated County Council team is working to support, improve and co-ordinate Staffordshire's public transport network.
The team works with the private bus and rail companies and other public organisations and user groups to raise standards and make the service more responsive to local needs. |

The County Council spends over £3million every year on funding vital bus services for communities who would otherwise not have a link to the shops, employment and leisure.
It's all about increasing mobility and access to opportunities for all.
Many people still believe that the Council runs the buses and controls the routes. But this hasn't been the case since 1986 when public bus services were privatised and routes deregulated.
Private bus operators run services to make a profit. We have no control over this.
However the County does step in to fund many services which do not make a profit but are thought to be vital to connect people to the jobs and services. These are often evening and weekend services and those which serve isolated communities.
The County also provides bus stations, shelters, stops and information panels.
We work with bus operators to make services more accessible for everyone, including wheelchair users. This includes providing new low-floor easy-access vehicles and new bus docking facilities.
We also work with the rail companies and invest in facilities for passengers at Staffordshire's rail stations. We represent the interests of Staffordshire in working with the rail industry and Government on plans for the future of the rail network.
Staffordshire's Local Transport Plan explains what we plan to do to encourage the use of public transport over the next five year. You can find out more about our Transport Planning actvities by following this link to our Transport Planning pages.
