Resident Parking Scheme

If you think a Resident Parking Zone would benefit your community here's what you need to do.

First get hold of a Residents Information pack and application form by writing to: The Traffic Regulation Manager, Staffordshire County Council, Wedgwood Building, Tipping Street, Stafford, ST16 2DH.  Or phone (01785) 276727. Or email clear.streets@staffordshire.gov.uk|.

When you've read the pack, send in your application.  Once it's received this will set in motion a whole chain of actions:

  • Council officers will consider your application and will assess how well your proposal fits into existing priorities.
  • Depending on the results we may ask all of the residents and businesses in the area what they would like out of the proposal so that we can carefully tailor the scheme to their needs.
  • We will then check that the majority of residents in the area approve of the proposal - if they do it can move on to the next stage.
  • The scheme will be drawn up in more detail.  The council have a duty to advertise these details for wider public consultation where everyone will have the opportunity to make their views known.
  • Once this is done one of three things will happen.  The scheme will be:
    • set in motion or
    • amended in light of comments and concerns then re-evaluated or
    • rejected if objections are raised which, despite re-evaluation, we cannot resolve.
  • If the scheme is accepted all the ground work will then be done - painting lines, putting up signs etc.
  • The appropriate District Council will issue parking permits and administer the scheme.
  • Once the Zone has been in operation for a while, we will take a close look at it in action and see whether or not it is achieving its original objectives.
