If your streets are always full of cars from out of the area visiting local honey pots - perhaps the shops or station - a Residents' Parking Scheme may really help restore calm to your neighbourhood.
We sympathise with anyone wanting to park close to their home and being unable to do so. So from the New Year councils across Staffordshire will be looking at ways to help by considering your suggestions for new Residents' Parking Zones (RPZs).
In RPZs part or all of the road space may be reserved for residents who hold valid permits. Only residents or local businesses, and in some cases their visitors, will be eligible for permits.
The zones will be clearly marked and sign posted, and in areas where they operate Clear Streets attendants will make sure that the permit system is not abused.
Before you apply it's as well to be aware that RPZs may not be the answer on every occasion. For instance if:
- you are annoyed by your neighbour parking their car on 'your spot' this is not a good enough reason to consider creating an RPZ. Contrary to popular belief you have no special claim to a guaranteed parking space on the road in front of your property.
- the people living and working in your road own more cars than the space available for safe parking then your application may be unsuccessful.
- you have an influx of parked cars from a local school, the temporary nature of this parking problem may be tackled by different means. This may include consideration of schemes such as Walking Buses which have been very successful in encouraging parents to leave their cars at home.
