Safer Routes Save Lives
|
Safety is at the top of our priorities in delivering improvements on Staffordshire's roads and the Safer Routes to School programme is a key initiative in delivering safety for communities across the county.
Safer Routes to School programmes focus on schools and the communities surrounding them - bringing everyone together to create a local street environment where children can walk and cycle to school in safety.
Safer Routes Projects are managed by steering groups composed of head teachers, community leaders and local councillors. At each stage of the development programme the community is carefully consulted to ensure that everyone's views are taken on board. |

Safer Routes to School Schemes can chose from a menu of options which could include:
- New electronic pedestrian and cyclists crossings
- Reduced speed limits and improved signage
- Skid resistent and coloured road surfacing
- Improved footpaths and traffic barriers
- Walk to school and walking bus schemes organised with schools
- New bike parking facilties and safer parking restrictions
- Traffic calming to save lives.
Each year the County Council approves the go ahead for at least a couple new Safer Routes to School Schemes.
