Introduction
What is Staffordshire Parish Councils' Association?
It is a local authority advice and support association.
Who are its members?
Its members are Parish and Town Councils (also known as 'local councils') from all over the County. There are now 179 Parish Councils in Staffordshire with approximately 80% in receipt of membership benefits.
What does the Association do?
It is a source of information for Parish and Town Councils, across the whole spectrum of a Council's business but, most importantly, provides free legal and financial advice. It is a network for communications and lobbies on behalf of Parish Councils to represent their interests.
There are now 74 legal topic notes (published by NALC) and available from us which cover many of the problems which Parishes face.
For the future, the Association is developing a wider training programme for both Councillors and Clerks; to promote good local government and grassroots democracy, by keeping Councils up to date with the latest developments.
Is there a national link?
Yes. By joining the SPCA, Members have access to the National Association of Local Councils. Their work includes lobbying with central Government on behalf of the Parish sector and offering in depth legal advice from solicitors with specialist knowledge of the Parish sector.
