Entry requirements
There are no specific entry requirements to join this volunteering course. However, a genuine interest in helping others, a positive attitude, and good communication skills are essential. You should be committed to completing the course and participating in a volunteering placement. No prior experience is necessary.
Course Content
In this course, you will learn the key roles and responsibilities of a volunteer, how to apply for volunteer positions, and how to write an effective cover letter. You will also gain practical experience through a volunteering placement and engage in activities that help develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Learning methods
You will learn through a combination of interactive lessons, practical exercises, and real-world volunteering experiences. The course includes group discussions, hands-on activities, and guided support to help you develop your skills. You will also complete a volunteering placement to apply what you have learned and gain valuable experience.
Learning materials
For this course, you will be provided with a folder and pen for taking notes during lessons and activities. Comfortable clothing, including a coat, is recommended for your volunteering placement, depending on the role you choose. There is no need to bring additional documentation for the placement, as all necessary arrangements will be handled. All other materials will be provided during the course to ensure a smooth and supportive experience.
Learner Support
You will receive full support throughout the course, including guidance from tutors, access to resources, and feedback on your progress. If needed, additional help will be available to ensure you feel confident and supported during your volunteering placement.
Course Assessments
You will be assessed through practical activities, including your participation in a volunteering placement and the completion of related tasks. Feedback will be provided on your cover letter and application, as well as your overall engagement and progress throughout the course.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
Learners can progress onto further courses for the new academic year 2026 - 27. They may also be supported to access the Staffordshire Brokerage Service, linking them to the Open Door Programme or the Connect to Work Programme to explore work experience, volunteering, training, and employment opportunities.
Are there any fees?
This course is fully funded and therefore there are no course fees.
