James Bond And The Famous Aston Martin
James Bond's Famous Aston Martin Will Be Joined By Countless Other Special Vehicles

Bond Car in line for Big Rugeley Bypass Celebration

The sleek, head turning Aston Martin that appeared in the classic James Bond 007 film Die Another Day, with Piers Brosnan and Halle Berry, is booked to make a special appearance at the Rugeley Bypass celebration on 22 September 2007.

The super car, owned by local business luminary Fred Pritchard, will join a cavalcade of buses, lorries, cars and other exceptional historic and modern vehicles.

The celebration marks the completion of the massive three year, multi-award wining, £25million project, an estimated three months ahead of schedule.

The new bypass will connect Rugeley to a new era of jobs and prosperity, helping to improve the town centre environment too by taking through traffic out of the town.

Staffordshire Highways spokesman Jeremy Herbert said the team were delighted to have the star car in the line up.

"Mr Brosnan and Ms Berry will be welcome to join the fun if they are free that weekend!

"We've already got loads of organisations on board and local people have flooded the Bypass Celebration hotline to volunteer their support.

"There's a bit of a power theme with the Power Station Band providing a centre piece of musical entertainment in tune with the powerful cast of lorries, buses, sports cars and historic motors. JCB are sending their top digger. There will be a fleet of fire engines and ambulances.

"More sedate transport will be on show and offering rides, with canal boats, horse drawn transport and velocipedes (bikes) of all shapes and sizes.

"The natural beauty of the countryside around and about Rugeley will be on show too - with the local Badger Group, the Wildlife Trust, Shugborough and Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Beauty all booked in to bring displays and information.

"Linking animals to local action - the Rugeley Lions and the Hearing Dogs for the Deaf will be along to show off their good works in the community.

"The there's the food - we have a marquee packed with local food - a real Taste of Rugeley for everyone to enjoy.

"It's going to be a great celebration and everyone is invited," he said.

The day is programmed to start in the morning with a walk along the stunning engineering masterpiece, through the beautiful meadows, looking at the canal bridge, the two massive rail bridges, the two river crossings and the central flood arches along the three miles of road.

Event organisers are still on the look out for more vehicles, bands, artists, businesses and anyone with ideas about how they can play their part. Either e-mail info@conkerzoo.co.uk or ring 01889 256100 (Monday to Friday 9-5.)
