Placing items and skips

What is a permit to place items on the highway?

For skips and building materials on the highway, an application for a permit to place items on the highway is required.

If your permit application is approved it will allow you to place large or bulky items on the public highway, such as:

  • skips used for non-hazardous waste
  • 'hippo' bags or other bags for non-hazardous waste
  • builders materials if appropriately secured in bags or wrapped materials on pallets
  • unfixed temporary items specifically agreed by us

If you are just dropping off bricks or other materials and then moving them off the highway onto private land you will not need a permit.
