Lee Pearson, six-time Paralympic gold medal winner from Cheddleton

Staffordshire sends best wishes to Team GB

With Team GB flying out to the training camp in Macau this week the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Steering Group for the 2012 Games is wishing all our athletes good luck for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games.   

Staffordshire is being represented by the following athletes:

Cannock:    

  • Simon Munn, Wheelchair basketball (Paralympics) - Club: Wolverhampton Rhinos

South Staffordshire:

  • Martin Crutchley, Shot (Paralympics) - Cannock & Stafford Athletic Club
  • Chris Ellis,  Wheelchair rugby (Paralympics) - Club: Wolverhampton Rhinos
  • Charlotte Craddock,  Hockey (Olympics) - Cannock Hockey Club

East Staffordshire:

  • Beth Rodford, Rowing (Olympics) -  Thames Rowing Club
  • Tracey Hallam, Badminton (singles - Olympics) - Club: Vendsyssel, Denmark

Lichfield:

  • Paul Manning, Cycling (Team Pursuit - Olympics) - Professional Road Team

Newcastle under Lyme:

  • Jess Sylvester, Swimming (4x100 freestyle relay - Olympics) - Club: Nova Centurion

Staffordshire Moorlands:

  • Anna Bebington,  Rowing (Double Scull -  Olympics) - Leander Club
  • Lee Pearson, Dressage (Paralympics)

Stoke-on-Trent:

  • Kate Dennison, Athletics (Pole Vault - Olympics) - Club: Sale Harriers
  • Steven Lewis,  Athletics (Pole Vault - Olympics) - Club: Newham and Essex
  • Alex Nelson, Athletics (200m - Olympics) - Club: Sale Harriers
  • Ashlee Nelson,  Athletics (4x100m relay - Olympics) - Club: City of Stoke-on-Trent  
  • Lee Greatbatch, 5 a side Blind Football - Paralympics) - Club: Worcester

The following young athletes will be going to Beijing as part of the British Olympic Association's 'Britain's Olympic Ambition 2012' programme. The programme is designed to enhance athlete medal success at the London 2012 Olympic Games by providing talented potential team members with the opportunity to experience the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.   

Stafford:

  • Elizabeth Neave,  Canoe Slalom - Stafford and Stone Canoe Club
  • Rob Neave, Canoe Slalom - Stafford and Stone Canoe Club
  • Mark Proctor, Canoe Slalom - Stafford and Stone Canoe Club

County Councillor Maureen Compton, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent 2012 Steering Group Member, said: "We have many talented athletes here in Staffordshire and I would like to wish each and every one of them and their fellow British Olympic and Paralympic team members the very best of luck as they busily prepare for Beijing 2008."

Lee Pearson, six-time Paralympic gold medal winner from Cheddleton, said: "Staffordshire is the best place to be in terms of both its central location and the support it has given to me as an athlete. I'll be doing my very best to bring home a medal at the Paralympic Games in Beijing."
