Summer Field Court
An artist's imperssion of how Summer Field Court will look

Court demonstrates extra care for older people

A plaque unveiling ceremony has marked the start of construction of the very first 'extra care' scheme in Stone will take place this week

Cllr Susan Woodward, Cabinet Member for Healthier Communities and Older People, will unveiled the plaque to acknowledge progress made at the Summer Field Court Scheme, where work is now well underway.

Staffordshire County Council and Housing 21 are working together to provide this new scheme which consists of 34 apartments and eight bungalows which will be available for rent, shared ownership and outright sale.  The bungalows are already complete and are now due for sale while the apartments are due to be ready towards the end of the year.

The development will also incorporate a wide range of facilities, which will benefit both residents at the scheme and the wider retirement community of Stone.  In the main building there will be a residents' lounge, restaurant and hairdressing salon and various social activities will be on offer.

Extra care housing enables people aged 55 and over to live in their own apartment or bungalow with the added security of CCTV, door entry systems and for those that need it, staff on site 24 hours a day to provide support and personal care.

Cllr Susan Woodward said: "This development is fantastic news for Stone and we are thrilled to be working with Housing 21 on this.  Summer Field Court will provide residents with high quality housing, access to support and care services if needed and most importantly will allow them to retain and maintain their independence.

"This development will also benefit the local community as they will be able to access many of the facilities available."

Juliette Daniel, Development Programme Manager for Housing 21 said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Staffordshire County Council on this exciting project. It will be a valuable resource for the local community in Stone as well as providing homes specifically designed to meet the needs of older people."
