Bluebells welcome Shugborough May Day celebrations

Spring has finally sprung at Shugborough this week as the estate gets set to host its May Day celebrations against a backdrop of stunning bluebells.

The estate is calling for visitors from across the region to come and enjoy a glorious Bank Holiday relaxing to the sound of Rugeley Power Station Brass Band in the estate's 900 acres of stunning parkland.

Along with the bluebells, the world class display of wisteria, trained right across the enormous Servants' Quarters, is also ready to burst into bloom and the first of this season's swallows are now filling the riverside walks with birdsong.

On May Day, visitors can enjoy an elegant horse and carriage ride along the parkland drive which takes in magnificent views of Cannock Chase and the surrounding countryside.

At the farm and in the servants' quarters costumed servants will be milling, baking, dairymaking and brewing, while in the mansion house visitors can take in a new stunning exhibition of photographs, taken as part of a competition in memory of Patrick Lichfield.

For families, face painters will be on hand, youngsters can try out the new play equipment at the farm, meet the host of newborn animals and enjoy a fun train ride.
