Challenging new website reveals the world of waste planning
A challenging new website which reveals the world of waste planning has been launched by Staffordshire County Council.
The Beyond the Bin pages now include an intriguing game which encourages people to take on the role of waste planners.
Simply log on to at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/playthegame and click the Downloads and Resources option.
The game features a map pinpointing 30 potential waste sites that have been put forward by industry.
The wish list has been published before but never quite as graphically.
The main aim of the game - and in the long run the main aim of the council's waste planning programme - will be to match the demand for new waste management sites with the locations made available by industry.
All of the components to play the game are easily downloadable. The website has been launched to coincide with a trio of events where people will be able to play the game and get to grips with the problem together.
The sessions will take place from 10am-1pm at:
- Burton Town Hall - November 7
- St George's Church Hall, Newcastle - November 14
- Chasewater Innovation Centre - November 21
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Infrastructure Councillor Robert Marshall said: "The website really opens up the world of waste planning to residents and demonstrates the difficulties that the team faces when making decisions about where to put a waste management facility.
"It is a tough job but it is one that needs doing. Staffordshire produces 4.2 million tonnes of waste every year and it needs to go somewhere. We can't just say 'not in my backyard'. The game is a great way to learn about this vital council function and to take on a fresh challenge."
For more information on the events, or to book a place, call 0800 232323 or email playthegame@staffordshire.gov.uk and state your name, contact number, email address and which event you would like to attend.
