Chairman Mike receives MBE at Buckingham Palace

County Councillor Mike Poulter has collected his MBE award in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The award was announced in the Queen's New Year Honours List for services to policing.

Mike has been a member of the county council since 1980 and has held many of the top positions within the authority. He has also worked tirelessly in the cause of policing in Staffordshire, serving on the police authority for 25 years, the last eight as chairman.

He said: "It was an enormous privilege to have been there and to have met the Queen.

"I also had the opportunity to meet with many other people from different walks of life and backgrounds and to speak to them about their achievements and contribution to communities.

"Each recipient was also celebrating the work of the many individuals, groups and teams who had equally contributed to their awards. In that sense the occasion was also a national celebration of the groups and organisations that we work for and with."

John Taylor, Leader of the county council said: "I am delighted for Mike. This is a fitting reward for his service to the people of Staffordshire, and particularly his work as a member and as chairman of the police authority."
