Everyone will be welcome at their local library

Libraries roll out the red carpet for new members

Libraries across Staffordshire are taking part in the first ever national library membership campaign.

Libraries across Staffordshire are getting ready to fling open their doors and give a hearty welcome to new members.

On  National Join a Library Day, Saturday April 26, most libraries in the county will be enticing people to join with the smell of fresh coffee, yummy cake or biscuits and a free welcome pack for joiners.

There are thousands of vibrant welcome packs to be given away to new members on a first come first served basis, and while stocks last, children and young people who join the library will also be given a free book - "The Ultimate Guide to Reading".

What's more, as a little something extra, until the end of May, Staffordshire's Libraries are giving all new members a voucher so that they can borrow a CD, DVD or audio book for free!

Maureen Compton, County Councillor and Cabinet Support Member for Cultural Services said: "Public libraries provide a fantastic service to local communities and I want to encourage anyone who is missing out to pop down to their local library and join."

It is free to join a library in Staffordshire.

Members have access to over 1 million books, 46,000 CDs and 17,000 DVDs, as well as free internet access, a place to read the newspapers in peace and the opportunity to get involved in a range of stimulating library events and activities.

To find your nearest library, go to www.staffordshire.gov.uk/libraries.
