road scheme
The scheme will make roads safer

New scheme will deliver safety for motorists and pedestrians

A £500,000 road improvement project will lead to greater safety for pedestrians and motorists alike.

The project involves creating a new link from Mount Road area of Kidsgrove.

Over the last five years there have been nine accidents that have resulted in injury along this stretch of road and Staffordshire Highways has been looking to find a solution and the funds to deliver it.

Now the scheme has reached the top of the priorities list and is ready to roll.

The new scheme will include benefits for everyone:

  • A new high tech signalised traffic junction complete with sensor controlled crossings for pedestrians.
  • New bus docking platforms, meeting the latest standards, will include high profile easy to read bus timetable information points, seating and shelters.
  • A more direct and improved footpath running along the new road to Aldi.
  • Species sensitive landscaping, including new tress and shrubs, reclaiming 2,000 square metres of derelict land.
  • A comprehensive road lighting upgrade, improving visibility and reducing light pollution.

"The old road network has developed over the centuries and doesn't serve the needs of 21st Century Kidsgrove. We are ploughing in over £500,000 of public money to deliver a scheme that benefits the economy, the community and the environment.

"The new road will improve road safety and accessibility for vulnerable citizens, help keep traffic on the move and regenerate derelict land to create a more attractive and wildlife rich environment," said County Councillor John Taylor - Staffordshire County Council Leader and Local Member.

Local mothers Michelle Bailey and Helen Copeland are delighted with the plans.

"It's really difficult and sometimes frightening to cross the road here. The new crossings will really help us. It's great news," they said.
