How they new school may look!

Festival ideas create future look of village school

Exciting plans for a new school in a Staffordshire village go on public display next week.

They have been created following a "design festival" that invited parents, children and staff at Huntington Primary School to join architects in a creative brainstorming session.

The resulting plans for the proposed new £6.5 million school will be on show tothe local community on Tuesday May 20 at the school in Stafford Road, Huntington.  Anyone interested can drop in between 3.30pm - 6.30pm where architects, county council representatives and head teacher Lynn Small will be on hand to answer questions.

Huntington Primary School is currently spread across two site separated by the A34. But the regeneration of an old mining site means the school will now be united.

Robert Simpson, Staffordshire County Council Deputy Leader said: "This is the first stage in a very exciting project that will give Huntington a 21st century primary school that we can all be proud of."

Lynn Small added: "The staff and pupils are very excited about the idea of a new single site school.  The new school will provide a focal point for a community that is lacking in facilities and hopefully by encouraging the whole school and parents to get involved we can raise the aspirations of the whole of the community."

Architect Ian Tipton of SMC Corstorphine and Wright said:  "It was absolutely essential for me to attend the design festival. The most important aspect of school design is to create an inspirational place that positively influences the behaviour and enthusiasm of all the pupils and staff, and helps children realise their full potential on their journey through life. By spending a whole day together you begin to understand those involved in the project and that brings a real sense of team spirit and ownership. Apart from that it was a lot of fun!"

For anyone who is unable to attend the information session but who would still like to find out more about the proposals please contact Julie Nash on 01785 278975 or email Julie.nash@staffordshire.gov.uk.
