All schools are commited to gaining healthy status

More healthy schools jump for joy at award

Pupils and representatives from schools across Staffordshire have celebrated a healthy start to the new term by descending on Stafford's County Buildings  to receive a special award in recognition for their efforts.

All Staffordshire's schools are aiming to achieve National Healthy Schools Status, an exciting national long-term initiative which is making a dramatic difference to the health and achievement of children and young people.  To date, over 200 of the county's schools have already successfully gained the status with the remainder working hard towards it.

Schools have worked closely with Staffordshire County Council and local Primary Care Trusts to achieve National Healthy Schools Status, which promotes the link between physical and emotional well-being within the whole school community.

The National Healthy Schools Programme recognises the achievement of schools in four areas across the whole school approach and is focused on four key themes: personal, social and health education (PSHE), healthy eating (and drinking), physical activity and emotional health and well-being (including bullying).

Deputy Leader County Councillor Robert Simpson said: "This is a wonderful achievement for everyone involved.    These schools have shown that they have invested in being healthy and are dedicated to ongoing improvement and development in this area, equipping pupils with the skills and attitudes to help them make informed decisions about their health. "

A special awards ceremony took place on September 23 in County Buildings, Martin Street, Stafford.
