Man on scooter
Jim Brotherston get out-and-about on one of the scooters

Scooters give access to glory of Cannock Chase

Nature lovers across Staffordshire are being encouraged to scoot off into the sun using a trio of hi-tech trampers.

The battery powered machines are available to hire free of charge and allow elderly and disabled people to enjoy the sights and sounds of Cannock Chase.

The scooters are easy to use and are available from the Marquis Drive Visitor Centre.

They are a lifeline to many people who would otherwise be unable to get out and about in the fresh air during the balmy summer months.

The scooters can be used to follow the designated nature trails which wind through the picturesque forest.

Jim Brotherston from Armitage said: "The scooters really are a lifeline for me. It would be impossible for me to get out and about on the Chase and enjoy the area if this equipment wasn't available.

"Its wonderful to be able to really enjoy and appreciate the wildlife and the tranquillity that is available right on my doorstep - without the scooters that would not be an option for me."

"Cannock Chase has so much to offer and I would love other people to come along and have the same enjoyment that I do using the scooters."

John Quigley, Head of the Ranger Service, added: "The scooters really are wonderful, they provide people with a way to get out and enjoy themselves on Cannock Chase.

"We would really like it if more people made the most of the opportunity to come to the Chase and see all of the wonderful things we have to offer our visitors."

Cannock Chase is Britain's smallest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and much of it is recognised by English Nature as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

To book a scooter call Marquis Drive Visitor Centre on 01543 876741.
