Tributes to late councillor Ted Perry

Friends and colleagues have joined together to pay tribute to Cllr Ted Perry who passed away on Friday following a long illness.

Cllr Perry had served as county councillor for Cheadle and Checkley since 2001, although he had been involved in local politics for many years.

Peter Haynes, Chairman of the County Council said: "I counted Ted as a personal friend and a very easy man to get on with. I served with him on the Planning Committee, and when he spoke you could be certain you would hear common sense. I am sorry to see Ted go.

"My thoughts are with his family and also with the people he represented. There will be many people who miss him."

Philip Atkins, Leader of the Conservative Group said: "Ted has fought bravely against a long illness, and continued to work for the people of his division until the very end, regardless of their politics.

"He had a distinguished record of public service, and was a district councillor for 36 years. As a former teacher he had a commitment to education, and he fulfilled a lifelong ambition when he became shadow cabinet member for Children and Lifelong Learning at the county council.

"His wife, June, was a constant support to him and our thoughts are with her at this time."
