Pressman's picture is Royal momento

A press photographer's image of the recent Royal visit to Stafford will be presented to Buckingham Palace as an official momento of the occasion.

The scene in a thronged Market Square was captured by Express and Star photgrapher Dave Woodhall. It appeared on the front page of the newspaper the day following the visit.

An offical photographic momento of each visit is traditionally presented to the palace.

John Foster Officer to the Lord Lietenant of Staffordshire said: "This picture was chosen as it captured the mood perfectly in terms of activity and celebration. It was what the day was all about.

"The number of people, happy faces, the colours - it just summed up in one shot what the visit represented."

The visit by Her Majesty the Queen on Friday March 31 celebrated the 800th anniversary of the granting of Stafford's Royal Charter. It included lunch at County Buildings and a presentation by Peter Haynes, the Chairman of Staffordshire County Council, on behalf of the people of the county.
