Staffordshire's Pension Fund Number 1 in England and Wales
Staffordshire's Pension Fund, which is administered by Staffordshire County Council, has come out top of a survey of Local Authority Pension Funds in England and Wales.
The value of the Pension Fund has increased by 29% (around £500 million) over the last year (April 2005 to March 2006). The average increase was 24.9%. This increase brings the total value of the Staffordshire Fund to over £2 billion.
Healthy returns in the Japanese share market and a number of alternative investments helped to push the Staffordshire Fund above average. Leader of the County Council Terry Dix, said: "It is great news that the Pension Fund has increased in value well above the expected average.
This is a testimony to the hard work we have undertaken to the restructure and modernisation of the fund with the appointment of several new fund managers. With over 30,000 employees we are acutely aware of our responsibilities to them today and in the long term and the news that our pension fund is number one in England and Wales can only be great news for everybody. "
There are over 60 employing bodies in the Staffordshire County Council administered Pension Fund including the County Council, District Councils, Police and Fire (civilian staff) and Staffordshire University.
