Heatwave Warning
As the Met Office issues a warning predicting temperatures could hit the 30's this week Staffordshire County Council employees are being warned to take extreme care in the heat.
With more than 30,000 employees including teachers, office staff, highways engineers and rangers all staff have been given guidance on how to stay safe and keep cool during the hot spell.
A relaxed dress code to ensure employees are more comfortable in offices that can reach high temperatures during the hot weather has also been introduced. All workers are being advised to drink lots of fluid, particularly if they work outside.
Those who drive as part of their job are being urged to keep their vehicles well ventilated to avoid drowsiness, take water with them and to have regular rest breaks.
Specific advice has already been issued to employees who work outside or those dealing directly with older and younger people, who are more vulnerable to the effects of the sun.
County Council Leader Terry Dix said: "Many of us like to enjoy the hot weather but it is always important to do this safely. Excessive exposure to the sun as we know can be extremely dangerous with young children and older people particularly at risk. We're urging employees and service users to bear this in mind during the heatwave and to follow some simple steps to make sure they don't dehydrate or burn."
