Award recongnises great strides in delivering e-services
The County Council has been honoured for its work helping deliver electronic services to the people of the county.
The authority is one of 10 partners in Staffordshire Connects. The partnership has just been awarded Beacon Status by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) in the category of Transforming the Delivery of Services Through Partnerships.
Staffordshire Connects was one of only seven partnerships to receive the accolade nationally.
Now the County Council's Chairman, Peter Haynes. has received a trophy to mark the honour.
It was presented by Jack Barber, the County Council's Deputy Champion for the Staffordshire Connect Joint Committee.
Cllr Barber said: "The partnership is all about making services available electronically for everyone in Staffordshire.
"This covers a huge range of services, ranging from applying for a Blue Badge parking permit on-line to renewing a library book or reporting a broken street light.
"But we are also working hard to ensure this process is as seamless as possible. For instance, people will only have a single point of contact so they will not have the trouble of finding out which local authority provides which service.
"This will have the dual benefit of making services easier to reach for the public, and saving the resources of the partners by avoiding duplication."
Cllr Barber added: "Beacon Status confirms we are at the forefront of delivering electronic services in Staffordshire, and all the partners can be proud of their foresight and the way we have worked together."
The Staffordshire Connects local authority partners are:
The County Council Stoke-on-Trent City Council
Cannock Chase District Council Moorlands District Council
Newcastle Borough Council Tamworth District Council
Stafford Borough Council South Staffs District Council
Lichfield District Council East Staffs District Council
