Cyclists switch their cars for bangers
Cyclists from across Staffordshire got together today to burn sausages rather than the planet - in Stafford's annual National Bike Week Bikers Breakfast.
And this year's event was dubbed the Low Carb(on) Breakfast in honour of cycling's role in reducing the climate changing carbon dioxide emissions emitted by petrol and diesel combustion.
The event was organised by Staffordshire County Council's Sustainable Travel Team as part of a week of events celebrating the environmental and health benefits of two wheeled transport.
Over 50 bikers turned up for the breakfast bash - with cyclists groups, councils and environmental groups all gearing up to encouraging more people to take to the saddle throughout National Bike Week and beyond.
Staffordshire Green Transport guru Sonia Atkins dished out the sausages at the Riverside Sports Centre cyclists reception.
John Wakefield, Staffordshire's Green Travel Champion said: "More and more people are starting to enjoy cycling as part of mixed and healthy transport diet. Cycling is a great way to tackle pollution and congestion and beat those car queue blues. Plus it keeps you fit and healthy.
"And with Climate Change fixed in the headlines cycling is the prefect way to get out and about burning calories - not carbon. Our sausage fuelled cyclists were carbon dioxide free and climate change neutral."
