Try something new during Adult Learner's Week

Adults and families across Staffordshire are being encouraged to try something new with an array of free events run by Staffordshire County Council in May.

During Adult Learner's Week, Saturday 17- Friday 23 May 2008, people with a passion for new activities will be spoilt for choice with taster sessions at a range of venues across the county.

On Saturday 17 May, Pendrell Hall College in Codsall Wood will be welcoming learners at an open day where over 21 activities ranging from complementary therapies to silk painting, Tai Chi to card making will be on offer.

Children will also be performing dance routines and weather permitting, visitors will have a rare opportunity to look at the sun using the special instruments in the college's two observatories.

Transport to the college will be available on a regular basis from the Bilbrook, Birches Bridge and the Codsall area in a specially commissioned mini-bus that will display an Open Learning Day sign.

In addition to the day's activities at Pendrell Hall, libraries across the county will be hosting a huge range of events. From Silver Surfer sessions to introductory Reiki, how to build a Dalek to manicures and hand massage, there will be something to appeal to people with many different interests and hobbies.

The Adult and Community Learning Service will be also working with colleges and other organizations across Staffordshire to provide yet more taster sessions.

County Councillor Eric Drinkwater, Cabinet Support Member for Lifelong Learning, said: "Adult Learners Week is a real chance for people who may have shied away from learning in the past to discover the fun that can be had by trying new things."

He continued: "Last year, over 2000 people took part in the week's activities and I would love to see more people get involved this year."
