Have your say at Councillor Question Time
A member of the youth parliament has made a rallying call to his peers to attend next week's Councillor Question Time in Tamworth.
Councillor Question Time goes to the town's Torc Centre in Silver Link Road on Tuesday December 2nd with Building Staffordshire's Future (BSF) likely to be the top of the agenda. ITV Central News presenter Bob Warman is the night's compere.
The county council's been given the given the green light to invest £100 million in Tamworth. It's after its bid to join the Building Schools for the Future programme (known as Building Staffordshire's Future locally) was successful.
Member of the Youth Parliament for East Staffordshire and Tamworth James Greenhalgh said: "I am looking forward to Councillor Question Time as it is a great opportunity for young people to ask questions and make their views known on a number of issues which the county council have responsibilities for, such as transport, recycling within schools and the BSF programme which is a very important issue, especially seeing as the public consultation stage of the BSF is currently taking place - it's a fantastic opportunity for young people to have our say on these proposals and a whole range of other critically important issues affecting us."
James added: "I would urge as many young people as possible to put forward their questions and get to the event to represent the young people of Tamworth."
County Council Leader County Councillor John Taylor added: "We're expecting a big turn out and the panel's geared up to take questions on the BSF process and what it means for the people of Tamworth. It's an excellent opportunity for the area and will transform the secondary education system not just in Tamworth but will pave the way for the rest of Staffordshire as well.
He added: "It's great that James is on the panel. He will help us give a young person's response to the questions raised, whether that's about BSF or any other issue."
The panel for the Tamworth event has been confirmed as:
- County Council Leader, County Councillor John Taylor
- Deputy Leader, County Councillor Robert Simpson
- County Councillor (Watling South) Carol Dean
- County Councillor (Lichfield Rural East) Matthew Ellis
- Area Highways Manager Clive Thomson
- Member of the Youth Parliament for East Staffordshire and Tamworth James Greenhalgh
