Staffordians invited to consultation events this week to have say on new access route
The western access improvements are needed due an increase in traffic in recent years and because of plans for further business investment, employment, retail development and housing.
A new route would link the A518 Newport Road to the A34 Foregate Street via Castlefields. Now residents are being invited to a consultation event at Oddfellows Hall in Greengate Street on Thursday December 3 and Friday December 4.
Planning is in the early stages and so it's important that people put their views forward on their favoured option.
The new route would be built using Government funding. It is needed because the town's existing roads would not be able to take the extra traffic that's predicted in coming years.
Cabinet member for highways Mike Maryon said the consultation event would give people the opportunity to take on board and carefully consider the four options.
He added: "Stafford is a growing town and already experiences congestion during peak times. Future business, retail and residential development will only exacerbate this if nothing is done.
"That's why this new access route is so important. It's vital we get it right with the backing of people who live in the town - particularly those in the vicinity of the proposed options.
"I'd urge as many people as possible to attend the consultation event on December 3 and 4 so they can let us know what they think.
"Having the right infrastructure in place will help Stafford to continue to thrive as the county town and as a great place to live, work and visit."
More information is available at dedicated microsite where the public can fill in an online form to put forward their views on which route should be constructed.
