New website launches to recruit apprentices
www.staffordshireapprentices.org.uk encourages people aged between 16 and 18 to consider applying for an apprenticeship placement.
The website lists current county council vacancies and provides all the information needed to find out more and apply.
Staffordshire County Councillor Mark Winnington, Cabinet Member for Performance and Organisation and apprentices' champion, said: "This website will be a real help people looking for their first job and want the flexibility to gain qualifications and earn a salary at the same time.
"We're absolutely committed to giving people the skills, experience and confidence they need to get on the career ladder.
"We're well on our way to recruiting our target of 250 apprentices, and we hope that this website will give more people the opportunity to apply."
Apprentices already work in a number of roles across the county council, from horticulture and technical roles to business administration, catering and customer service
Different roles are advertised at different times of the year, so it's important to keep checking the website for new vacancies.
And the county council has also just been highly commended in the West Midlands Apprenticeship 2010 Awards.
County Councillor Winnington added: "This commendation means that apprentices can rely on the very best support and training from us. We are 100% committed to investing in Staffordshire's future workforce and that means giving our apprentices every development opportunity possible - something we're very proud of in the current climate.
"Many apprentices have gone into full time employment, whether with us or others, directly from their opportunities with the county council."
It is hoped that the website will soon feature vacancies from organisations across Staffordshire - not just from the county council.
