Urban Places : Open Spaces

An exhibition by pupils from Staffordshire Schools aged between 11-14. On show will be a selection of work including painting, drawing, textiles, photography and sculpture, on the themes of urban and rural environments. The innovative use of materials, including recycling is being encouraged.

Most children like to get their hands dirty with arts & crafts projects and older contemporary designer/makers are just the same!
This exhibition has been inspired by and produced especially for children. It is never too early to introduce children to the beauty and originality of handmade objects so come along with the children and have a look at what's on offer.

Inspired by Bollywood
19 July - 7 September
This exhibition encompasses all things 'Inspired by Bollywood' - from film posters and costumes to contemporary printmaking and sculpture.
Iconic images from the National Media Museum, Bradford will be on show alongside contemporary work by Bill Chambers, Andy Jupp and Val Hunt.
Also on show will be 'Bollywood Stills' - an exhibition drawing on the large stills archives from Kamat Photo Flash in Mumbai, India. The images chart the history of stills production from its heyday in the 70s and 80s to their transformation into digital photography. This is a partnership project between Punch Records, Kranti Media and Manchester University.

To compliment the Bollywood theme this exhibition showcases work by contemporary designer/makers who are inspired by the various patterns and vibrant colours of South Asia.
A wonderful array of work will be on display from beautiful, ornate jewellery inspired by Mughal architectural patterns to prints exploring the luxurious embellishments of Indian textiles.
This collection of work celebrates the richness and diversity of a culture busting with culture.

Staffordshire Open Art 2008

The Staffordshire Open Art Exhibition is the Gallery's annual showcase for artistic talent in the County. Each year prizes are kindly sponsored by local businesses. This year's sponsors were Stafford Railway Building Society, Pritchard Holdings Plc, Schott UK Ltd, Barnett Ratcliffe Partnership, Stafford Tourism Bureau, and The Paper House, Stafford.
The winning artist received a cheque for £1000 and a stunning piece of contemporary glass made by glass artist Stuart Akroyd, kindly sponsored by Stafford Railway Building Society.
The work for the exhibition was selected by Peter McLuskie, Project Manager Lighthouse, Wolverhampton and Gail Britt, MA, Painter.

The exhibition featured paintings, drawings, prints, photography, 3D, sculpture, film and animation. Most of the work was for sale with something to suit all tastes and pockets.
During the show visitors voted for their favourite piece of work in our 'Visitors Choice Prize'. The winning entry was 'Brazilian Sky Scrapers' by artist Naomi Greaves who received a cheque for £250 sponsored by Stafford Tourism Bureau.

Iron Works

Following the journey of ten newly commissioned pieces from concept to completion, this exhibition examines the methods, techniques and practices used in contemporary cast iron.
During Summer 2007, artists from across the UK and US gathered in Ironbridge to experience the raw power and natural beauty of one of the oldest elements in the universe, creating new work in a small, self made cupola.

Spring has sprung and attentions turn to the garden! This exhibition, concerned with all things horticultural, is a must see for lovers of flowers, wildlife and gardening.
Featuring work inspired by gardens and including beautiful hand made items for your garden, this exhibition will encourage you to put on those gardening gloves and get outside!
Work includes colourful butterfly brooches by Melanie Tomlinson, garden night lights by Liz Emtage and wire birds by Catherine Harvey.

Rhubarb-Rhubarb Bursary Award Winners

The West Midlands is currently enjoying an explosion of talent from fine art photographers who are living across the region. Some of that creative talent is showcased in 'Platform 1', an exhibition of work from the Rhubarb-Rhubarb Bursary Award winners 2007.
The show features a range of work, ideas and approaches from artists' Helen Berrow, Janice Dale, Steve Schofield, Hugh Sanders, Mark Wood, Claire Smith, Daniel Bosworth, David Sullivan, Stuart Mills, Paul Fuller, Jo Hallington and Robert Haines.

Craft for Men 2

Due to the success of 2005's Craft for Men exhibition we have sourced more makers who have men in mind when producing and designing their work. From ties to notebooks, prints to jewellery this exhibition will feature a large range of work for the men in our lives...just in time for Valentines Day!
Accompanying the craft will be a selection of work from the 'Man's Ruin' series by photographer Richard Heeps featuring vibrant, colour soaked images of hot rods, racetracks, guys and gals.
