Every Object Tells a Story

Discover the story of a County in Staffordshire’s museums

Do you have a favourite object, something that you treasure? Is it old or new? Is it large or small? What is it made from? Did you buy it or was it given to you? Does it hold a special memory of a place, a person or a special time in your life? Does it tell you or other people about the past or the world we live in today? Does it have a story to tell?

Every Object Tells a StoryStaffordshire’s story is told through thousands of objects housed in museums, galleries, castles, historic houses and heritage centres across the county. Every collection is made up of unique objects waiting to tell you their story.

In 2010, ten of Staffordshire’s museums joined forces with the BBC, the British Museum and 340 other museums across the UK to take part in the ‘A History of the World’ project.

In Staffordshire the history of our county was told through 10 key objects ranging from rare and fascinating items to everyday objects that helped to shape the world in which we live. Every object was selected for the story that it told and the local, national and global significance that it had.
