Courtroom

The Shire Hall Gallery is located in an historic building in the centre of Stafford.  The building was used as the Crown Court between the end of the eighteenth century and 1991. Coat of Arms

During the Middle Ages, knights used Coats of Arms to identify themselves in battle.  In this time very few people could read or write and so each individual design would represent them in the form of a collection of pictures or images.  Coats of Arms became hereditary, they were passed on from generation to generation, and they were a sign of wealth and importance.

In the Shire Hall Gallery there are several examples of Coats of Arms.  Why not try designing your own?  Click on the links below to find out what to put on a Coat of Arms, and for the templates to draw on, there are different ones for boys and girls!
