The Heart of It
The Heart of It is a partnership initiative between County Council's Joint Commissioning Unit, Staffordshire Women's Aid, Pathway Project and Staffordshire's Heritage & Arts Service.
The project aimed to gather the views of users of domestic violence services enabling them to contribute to how these services might develop in the future - finding out what works well on the one hand, and what would work better in the future on the other hand.
As a result, 4 creative workshops were facilitated across the county by professional artists; Jennifer Collier and Ruth Allen, who aimed to enable the women taking part to use art as a medium for getting ‘to the heart of it’.

‘The results were inspirational, enabling us to draw from so much more than statistics or usual questionnaires. These images and words convey real feelings, real experiences. They are a tribute to the women who took part.
We are incredibly grateful to Staffordshire’s Heritage & Arts Service, and to the professional artists because it enabled us to make this such a positive experience for the women taking part. As one participant said after the workshop “I feel like a tiger that’s been set free now."' – Women’s Aid.
