Become a library volunteer

Your Library needs you

Your Library welcomes volunteers.

Whether you can spare an hour or a few hours, once a week, once a month or on a more ad hoc basis, we'd love to hear from you.

Our volunteers don't substitute for or replace the work of paid for staff, their work enhances the experiences of our library users.

Volunteering opportunities can include:

  • Lending a hand during activities and events
  • Delivering books to housebound readers
  • Helping library users get to grips with computers by becoming an IT Buddy

What support do I get as a library volunteer?

As a library volunteer you'll be supported with:

  • an induction programme
  • a named supervisor who is responsible for supporting you during your voluntary activity
  • further on-the-job training if you need specific skills or information relevant to your role or task
  • task descriptions
  • payment for reasonable out of pocket expenses e.g. travelling costs when delivering books to housebound readers
