Local and family history materials

Your Library may contain some, or all of the following materials to help you find out about your local and family history.

• Audio visual materials - videos, DVDs, CDs and cassettes
• Books - books on a wide range of subjects about the local area
• Census information - since 1801, every ten years the nation has set aside one day for the census - a count of all people and households
• Council minutes, records and reports - reports of local council meetings
• Electoral Registers and Poll Books - Lists of people who have been allowed to vote
• International Genealogical Index (IGI) - A record of births, baptisms and marriages put together by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
• Maps and plans - maps showing the local area
• Newspapers - collections of local newspapers
• Parish Registers - parish registers giving details of baptisms, marriages and burials
• Photographs and illustrations - photographs, postcards or illustrations of the local area
• Special collections - a variety of unique local collections on topics specific to the area
• Trade Directories - historical information about towns, cities and villages, listing trades people and businesses and some private residents
